FOUNDER, REKOMAI

Razvan Popescu.
The person behind this.

I’ve spent 21 years building infrastructure other people couldn’t build themselves, in markets they couldn’t yet see coming. RekomAi is the latest version of the same problem.

THE PATTERN THAT RUNS THROUGH EVERYTHING

Every chapter, the same problem. Every time, a different platform.

In 2004, in Romania’s uncharted digital landscape, I built relationships that led to working with Audi, VW, and clients across other industries. In 2010, I landed in Sydney with two backpacks and no plan, and within months was doing pharmaceutical marketing, one of the world’s most regulated disciplines. In 2017, I built eCommerce positioning systems that helped brands compete on value when everyone else was racing to the bottom on price. In 2026, I launched RekomAi to solve AI visibility infrastructure before most consultants understood the problem existed.

The platform changed every few years. The problem I kept solving, and the person solving it, stayed the same.

I arrive before the mainstream. I build infrastructure, not campaigns. I identify the sequence error. And I run toward the thing that feels uncomfortable before it feels safe. That’s not a positioning strategy. It’s just how I’m built.

WHAT EVERYTHING RUNS ON

Four values. Every business decision tested against them.

These aren’t aspirational. They’re operational. If a decision conflicts with any of these, the answer is no. Regardless of the revenue.

01

Freedom

Freedom of thought, movement, choice, and lifestyle. Earned through post-communist Romania, immigration, and choosing to leave Australia in 2022 rather than compromise on it. Not a tagline. The reason I boarded a plane after 12 years.

02

Family

Wife Oana and son Dominic, born July 2018. Every business decision is tested against one question: can I do this and still be there for the people I love? Dominic is not a reason to work harder. He’s the reason not to work on things that don’t matter.

03

Health

Control over body and medical decisions, as well as mental health. Hardened by navigating Australia in 2020 to 2022, a season that made the stakes of physical and psychological sovereignty impossible to ignore.

04

Impact

Leaving the world better than I found it. Not just revenue. Positive ripple effects through clients, content, and community. The DAC Life newsletter, homeschooling Dominic, building RekomAi: all downstream of this.

Chapter 01 — 2004

I was 24. Romania had no rules.
I landed Audi and VW.

I was 24. Romania had no rules. I was figuring it out in real time.

Romania in 2004 was the wild west of digital marketing. No best practices, no playbook, no one telling you what worked. I founded SC Stoc Computer SRL and started building relationships across industries, including automotive, at a time when digital was still an open field.

Through those early connections, I ended up working with NVT, the official ABT-Sportsline dealer for Audi and VW in Romania. Not through a pitch or a positioning play. Through relationships, timing, and showing up before the space got crowded.

Showing up early has value. Relationships compound. I learned that at 24. I’ve been applying it ever since.

This chapter ran until 2009: five years of building a marketing company in a market that didn’t have a template for what we were doing. I married Oana in 2008. By 2009, we’d decided to leave.

Chapter 02 — 2010

Two backpacks. A motel room pin code. Sydney Airport.

Oana and I arrived in Sydney with two backpacks, a motel room pin code, and a plan to study graphic design while we figured out how to stay. By September, seven months in, the money was nearly gone and we were seriously considering going back to Romania.

At the end of a course party, a teacher named Shimon Firstman pulled me aside. He said six words that changed the next twelve years:

“Your dream is your compass. Follow it relentlessly.”

He also offered a connection that led to a part-time marketing consulting role, the income that let us stay. Another teacher, Tom, helped me land the position at Datapharm in November 2010. Two people. Two moments. A twelve-year chapter.

Chapter 03 — 2010 to 2022

11 years marketing products where getting it wrong meant someone could die.

Pharmaceutical marketing is one of the world’s most regulated disciplines. You’re selling simultaneously to doctors (who need clinical data, not persuasion) and to patients (who need hope expressed with precision). Under regulatory constraints that punish ambiguity. For eleven years, four months, at Datapharm Australia.

I learned things in that environment that no marketing course teaches. How to communicate when the stakes are literally life and death. How to build trust with the most sceptical possible audience. How to write clearly when every word is reviewed for legal and clinical accuracy. How to navigate complexity without simplifying the thing that cannot be simplified.

Pharma marketing is the graduate school of persuasion under constraint. I also learned it wasn’t for me, and I’ll never go back. Some lessons teach you what to do. Others teach you what you’ll never do again.

Parallel to Datapharm, I co-founded Oddball Web Solutions in 2012 and spent three years building the other half of my education: what it takes to run an Australian business, own a client relationship end to end, and convert strangers into paying clients without a corporate brand behind you. One headline change (“Claim Your Spot” over “Get Started”) produced a 47% lift in conversions. That was the lesson that permanently changed how I think about language.

Chapter 04 — February 2022

Australia started to feel like Romania. So we left.

After twelve years in Australia, a life built from two backpacks and a motel pin code, Oana and I made the decision in December 2021. We left in February 2022. I named my ClickUp project for the move “Escape from Alcatraz.”

I grew up in post-communist Romania. When you’ve lived under a system that tells you what you can and can’t do with your body, your business, and your family, you develop a very specific sensitivity to the early signs of that pattern recurring. In 2020, in Australia, I started recognising those signs.

Freedom is not a tagline. It is the reason you leave a country you spent twelve years building a life in.

Every business I’ve built since is downstream of that decision. RekomAi exists because of it. The DAC Life exists because of it. Homeschooling Dominic exists because of it. When your values stop being things you say and become things you act on. That’s when they’re actually yours.

Chapter 05 — January 2026

RekomAi. The next version
of the same problem.

AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity are replacing Google as the first stop in the buying journey. Experienced consultants, people with real expertise, real track records and real results, are invisible to these tools. Not because they lack credibility. Because they lack the infrastructure AI needs to recommend them.

That’s a sequence problem. And sequence problems have a fix. I’ve been solving sequence problems for 21 years. RekomAi is the current version.

I’m based in Romania now, travelling between Romania and Australia. Oana and I homeschool Dominic, deliberately, not as a default. We run DOR Studio together, a laser crafting and gifting business built around the conviction that personalised gifting creates emotional connections no advertising budget can replicate.

I write about AI infrastructure, business decisions, and deliberate family formation at The DAC Life: 41 issues indexed. I hosted The Tribe Architect podcast from July 2023. I’m planning to restart it when the timing is right.
